UI and UX is ravaging as the one of the top skills in demand right now. You might have clicked this blog to quench your thirst of curiosity to simply have a know-how of this or maybe embark a new venture to expertise this opportune field. Rather than simply talking about the subject itself, we would like to present you a journey from a fellow UI/UX designer whose story will sure give a deep insight on the same and maybe inspire you to gear up for your own unique learning path. So take that cup of tea and let's delve in.
How I actually got started with UI/UX.
My journey with UI/UX started with a phone call. Yes... A friend of mine called to join their team for a design-a-thon. That was how it all began. In this blog, I am sharing my journey as a UI/UX designer.
To start with, what is UI/UX ?
A user interface is like a joke if you have to explain it. UX design stands for user experience design, while UI design stands for user interface design. Both are important facets of the custom software development process, and both involve working closely with users to create interfaces that are both effective and easy to use.
At first !
As a student, I was interested in designing, I thought to learn photoshop, but at that, since I didn't have a computer which could run photoshop, I searched for an alternative. That's how I came to know about a web-based editor-FIGMA. I decided to learn Figma. To learn more about Figma, like everyone, I also turned to YouTube. Most of the tutorial I came across was based on UI/UX. Most of the tutorials on Figma were based on designing a UI for a web or app. So I decided to give it a try. Soon I became interested in making UI. I practiced making UI. As I was learning Figma, I came to know about web development. So I decided to give it a go. During that time, I also participate in many design competitions. Won some of them. Participating in competitions is not about winning, it's all about gaining experience and practicing the things which you have learned from your journey. To get thorough with what you have learned, competing with others with similar interests is "find a word to put here".
That's when a friend of mine from college called, to team up for a 24-hour designation. I was literally excited as they called me, and I didn't know anything about UI/UX 😅. What I knew was to design a website in Figma. It was during that design-a-thon, I came to realize that designing was not just about making what comes to your mind. UI/UX consists of many aspects and concepts, which when applied, gives you a fresh feel "fill in the blanks". We made it to the finals, and we were the runner ups in a National level competition. That was my first experience as a UI designer.
Where it all started !
During that competition, I learned how the rules of UX, the importance of user feedbacks, how to add pain points. The idea pf solving problems which the users faced. A UI should be both pleasing and easy to use. Before the competition, I made UI which felt good to me. I didn't think from the user point of view. To me, this competition was the stepping stone to my journey. The outcome of the competition was pretty solid. Check out
From there, we went to many competitions, won prizes, been in the top 10. What ever the result, the journey was always fun. It was during these competitions that I had learned about UI/UX. I had the privilege to learn and implement at the same time, which made my learning steeper.
After the competitions, during leisure times I started doing UI's, took a course on UI/UX, by google on Coursera. Although, I couldn't complete the full course. These competitions and the experiences pushed me forward in my journey. Although I couldn't complete the course.
To all beginners, I would say that the starting is always tough. There will be ups and downs, maybe the downs will be more than the ups. In any case, you should never ever drop your goals. Try to solve, overcome and push forward.
How it's going
To be frank, I am still a beginner in UI UX. There are more to learn and a lot of room to upgrade. I'm still learning, by experimenting and trying out new things.
